The most impressive monument from the Bulgarian National Revival period rises amidst the rugged beauty of the Rila Mountain. Having survived the times with the self-confidence of the most zealot guard of the Bulgarian spirit and language, it still fascinates present-day visitor with the pure and harmonious line of the buildings' exquisite colonnades, arches and vaults, spacious rooms richly decorated with murals and fretwork. The monastery's most treasured historic and artistic monuments include the 14th century Hrelyo Tower, the five-domed Birth of the Blessed Virgin Church and the original monastery kitchen from the 19th century. The monastery also houses a rich museum collection of valuable old manuscripts and documents, charters and icons, an ethnographic exhibition of fabrics, jewelry, carpets and wrought iron objects, and a library containing more than 16,000 books.

The National Museum of History in Sofia is one of the largest history museums on the Balkans with 650.000 items and the largest archaeological and historical archive. The Museum's collections are its greatest treasure. They comprise materials from Prehistoric ages till our days.
The Boyana Church, in the eponymous Sofia suburb at the foot of Mt. Vitosha, is one of the few complete and perfectly preserved mediaeval monuments testifying to the significant contribution of Bulgarian monumental painting to European culture in the middle Ages.
Various rock phenomena can be seen in Vitosha Mountain, just minutes away from the capital city of Sofia. The mountain is known for its so-called stone rivers. Zlatnite Mostove (the golden bridges) is one such natural phenomenon.
According to historians, Dragalevtsi Monastery was constructed in 1345. It was destroyed in an Ottoman assault and reconstructed in the second half of the 15th century. The monastery church is famous for its wall paintings. You are certain to notice these upon your entry.
